Mat-Su Emergency Preparedness Expo - Sept. 28th
The first 200 adults through the door will receive a bag of free safety items. Check the website or Facebook event prior to the event for a schedule of special presentations and trainings scheduled for that day too. Facebook event - https://www.facebook.com/events/1131950667868955 The Alaska Department of Fish and Game and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Mat-Su Habitat Restoration and Protection Cost-Share Program is pleased to announce we have funding opportunities available for waterfront landowners in your community who are having issues with shoreline and streambank erosion. The program provides technical expertise working with landowners to come up with proven bioengineering solutions to streambank and shoreline erosional problems that help stabilize the banks, slow erosion, and provide and restore fish habitat. The program provides funding assistance for landowners for projects that can included the installation of root wads, cabled spruce trees, brush layers, and trenched willows. The program can also fund stream bank protection projects like installing elevated light-penetrating gratewalks (ELPs), stairs, and decks, and the removal of structures detrimental to salmon habitat, such as rip-rap and bulkheads. The program is currently accepting applications for 2025 projects and our application period ends September 30, 2024, 5:00pm. Landowners are urged to apply early as funding is limited and the program is competitive. Not all projects will be funded, however if selected the program could reimburse up to 2/3 of the cost of the project.
